NOTE: David Bowie
Celebrates 50th Birthday with sold-out concert At Madison Square Garden before
14,500 fans.
The 1997 Madison Square Garden show featured Lou Reed, Frank Black, Dave
Grohl, Robert Smith, Sonic Youth and Billy Corgan. Bowie retired his hits on
his 1990 concerts, so the concert marked the first time he'd played songs like
"Space Oddity" in many years.
Also toasting Bowie at the show and a post-concert dinner hosted by his
wife Iman at the downtown space of Julian Schnabel - who directed Bowie as Andy
Warhol in the film Basquiat - were a wide variety of names: Beck, Moby,
Courtney Love, the former Prince, Charlie Sexton, and Fred Schneider; actors
Matt Dillon, Matthew Modine, Jeffrey Wright, Christopher Walken, and Michael
Wincott; and fashion's Donna Karan and Naomi Campbell.
A historic concert.
A must have!
