NOTE: The Brian
Jonestown Massacre is an American psychedelic rock band formed in San Francisco
in the late 1980s. The band's musical output has spanned psychedelia, folk
rock, blues rock, electronica, and experimental rock. Since the group's
inception it has undergone many personnel changes, with leader Anton Newcombe
remaining the sole original member for much of the band's career. As of 2013,
other than Newcombe, original or long-time members who have returned to the
band include Matt Hollywood, Joel Gion and Ricky Maymi. The Brian Jonestown
Massacre attained recognition in the second decade of the 21st century when its
music was selected for the soundtrack of the HBO cable television series,
Boardwalk Empire, with the song "Straight Up and Down" used in the
