NOTE: 'Desert punk' band Songhoy Blues hail from the north of Mali, and formed in the country's south when they were forced to flee their homes during the civil conflict that saw music banned. Their big break came when they auditioned for a collaborative recording project headed up by Blur's Damon Albarn, and they went on to record their debut album "Music in Exile" with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Nick Zinner.
