Neutral Milk Hotel - Live @ King's Arms, Auckland, New Zealand, 04-02-2001

NOTE (about the band): Neutral Milk Hotel was an American indie rock band formed by singer, guitarist and songwriter Jeff Mangum in the early 1990s. The band was noted for its experimental sound, obscure lyrics and eclectic instrumentation.
Neutral Milk Hotel released In the "Aeroplane Over the Sea" in 1998, which became their best-known and most critically acclaimed album. Although the album did not meet commercial success at the time of release, it has gone on to sell over 300,000 copies and received critical acclaim from several publications, including Pitchfork Media, Magnet Magazine, Allmusic, and The Pazz & Jop poll. Despite growing popularity, the group disbanded in 1999 after Mangum became disenchanted with touring and the music press, later having a nervous breakdown. (from Wikipedia)

NOTE (about the show): This is thought to be Jeff's first/last/only performance since 1998, and was the last time he played any NMH song live until 2008 (when he played "Engine" on the E6 Holiday Surprise tour, and in 2010 when he played a couple shows). This is basically a solo Jeff Mangum show under the name ‘Walking Wall of Beards, Inc.’ Jeff was joined by multi-instrumentalist Laura Carter on a few songs. Chris Knox joins for the last song (a John Lennon cover).
